Cats in our barn cat program may fall into one of three categories. A constant supply of food and fresh water. Placing them as outdoor cats in barns or other outdoor structures is a humane practical alternative to euthanasia.

These cats can be placed successfully in barns construction companies police stations and other businesses looking for inexpensive and effective rodent. Asheville Humane Society has cats who would love to be put to work. Our Working Cat Program is designed to find homes at barns warehouses farms and other safe locations for cats that have traditionally been deemed unadoptable. Not every cat is a snuggly lap cat or one who acts more like a dog and we know some people want a cat they can admire from afar and possibly keep as a barn cat.

The shelter is bringing in healthy independent cats that are in need of good indooroutdoor barn homes but often are not truly suited to the life of a lap cat. We strongly recommend having 2 or more barn cats because they keep each other company and can huddle together for warmth in cold weather. The cats will be helping you while you provide them a safe place to live.
